A debate is going on the biggest water utility in the state of Colorado and the topic of the debate is the fluoridation of the tap water. The controversy is one of the most important one for the industry of water.

About 5 million people are residing in Colorado State and Denver water which has been serving 1 out of 5 persons in the state. Other utilities serving in the state and the country are talking about the fluoridation which has been also facing some criticism as people opposing it say that it is going to be harmful for the bones and teeth but governor along with the officials related to the medical field are determined to give the process a favor.

There are few communities which are considering to solve the matter themselves and in the month of July, a village called as Snowmass has now decided that the fluoridation in the tap water would be stopped following a few of other Colorado cities. According to the reports, a meeting to give some information regarding fluoridation to the board was held by Denver Water. The director of Fluoride Action Network, Paul Connet told that the process of fluoridation has been stopped at almost 200 areas during the period of previous 5 years.

Connet believed that in the near future, there will be more places where the practice of fluoridation will be stopped as well. The target is the elimination of this process permanently.

John Hickenlooper who is the Governor of Colorado has also come in this matter and a statement has been given by his office which says that;

Suggestion for the communities in Colorado State is to fluoridate the water which is to be supplied to the general public from the office of the Governor and the Public Health and Environment Department. Fluoridation for the water in the communities has always proved to be harmless and moreover, the process is not very expensive. Due to this low cost method, the health of the people of Colorado can be made better. If more of the communities get involved in the process of fluoridation of the tap water of their residents, there will be a major contribution from them towards the state of Colorado which will be recognized as a state that is the healthiest of all.

Level of fluoride has been reduced this year by the government that is recommended for the tap water.

The suggestion for the level of fluoride that is optimal for the drinking water so that the safety of the teeth is ensured, has been released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. According to the recommendation given by the department, level of fluoride should not be over 0.7 milligrams per liter of water which was 1.2 milligrams per liter in an earlier recommendation.

The change was first proposed by the health department before 4 years and it has been seen in many of the big cities that the level of fluoride has been brought down.
