Intoxicated By Water?
In short, no, you can’t get drunk, but consuming too much water can be deadly and lead to what’s called water intoxication, or water poisoning. Drinking too much water too fast “waters down” – pun intended – the sodium levels in your bloodstream, causing brain cells to swell and pressure inside the skull to increase.
The first symptoms of water intoxication range from headaches to nausea to vomiting. More severe cases can include difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, double vision and increased blood pressure.
In extreme cases, drinking too much water can cause seizures, coma, brain damage or even death!
