Do you know which water stock if you had invested only $1,000 in 1997 would be worth $40,760 today?!
Unlock the secrets to investing in water when you subscribe to the Water Investment Newsletter!
Dear Investor,
Did you know that $1,000 invested in water utility stocks at the end of 1981 became $39,980 at the end of 2001, twenty years later?
During the same time period, $1,000 invested in the S & P 500 grew to $17,004. These are the result of returns of 20.25% and 15.22% respectively, compounded for 20 years. During this time, most investors did not do as well as the S & P 500, and certainly experienced average results that were far below those of water utility stocks.
History shows that water utilities have earned the leading performance rank when compared to all other industry groups for the last 5, 10, and 20 year periods. Despite this history, these stocks remain unrecognized by most investors, and water utilities continue to sell at moderate valuations. Stock prices remain generally below the average price that consolidators have been willing to pay for water utility assets in recent years.
You can stay abreast of these companies and other water-related stocks in each issue of the Water Investment Newsletter, the only financial newsletter that exclusively covers investments in the water industry.
Why would you listen to what we have to say in the Water Investment Newsletter?
Because we have been publishing the Water Investment Newsletter for the past 22 years, since 1986. We are well acquainted with the water Industry and have a deep history with the companies in the water market. We are no Johnny-Come-Lately in a hot market. We have been in this market for over two decades.
Why should you subscribe to WIN?
Because WIN unlocks the valuable information you need in order to make informed decisions about investing in water.
Why invest in water?
Because water is a rock-solid growth area for these simple reasons:
• Water will become more scarce in the future because there
will be a greater net consumption of water.
• The water that is now available will become contaminated.

These facts provide you and me with solid investment opportunities in the water industry.
Consider the water quality treatment industry, for instance. Government regulations (mostly as a result of the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act) are driving the water treatment segment of the industry. Municipalities and industries are being forced to clean up drinking water and wastewater like never before, providing bright futures for a number of growing companies that supply water and wastewater treatment equipment.
Opportunities also exist in other areas of the water industry. Replacing the nation's archaic water infrastructure has led to solid stock price growth for companies such as Ameron International Corporation, a leader in building large diameter pipe.
In turn, water line and water main replacements are driving growth in pipe companies. Heightened water and wastewater quality monitoring are placing water and wastewater treatment equipment manufacturers on paths for solid growth. Cities in the West are vying for expanded water supplies driving an infant but exploding water rights market. Bottled water is being consumed by this country as never before.
The increasing value of water worldwide is an opportunity for investment gains. If you want to stay abreast of water industry investment opportunities, then I recommend you subscribe to the Water Investment Newsletter (WIN). The Water Investment Newsletter is the only financial newsletter directed specifically at the water market.
Do you know which water stocks gained 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%. 90%, 125%, 180%, and 333% during 2007?
You would know if you had been a subscriber to The Water Investment Newsletter!
And do you know which water stocks are predicted to perform well in the next 1, 5, and 10 years?

Not making any more water
John Markman – MSN Money — There is no more fresh water on Earth today than there was a million years ago. Yet today, 6 billion people share it. Since 1950, the world population has doubled, but water use has tripled, notes John Dickerson, an analyst and fund manager based in San Diego. Unlike petroleum, he adds, no technological innovation can ever replace water.
China, which is undergoing a vast rural-to-urban population migration, is emblematic of the places where water has become scarce. It has about as much water as Canada but 100 times more people. Per-capita water reserves are only about a fourth the global average, according to experts. Of its 669 cities, 440 regularly suffer moderate to critical water shortages.
Although not widely appreciated, water has been recognized by conservative investors as an investment opportunity -- and it has rewarded them. Over the past 10 years, the Media General water utilities index is up 133%, double the return of the Dow Jones Utilities Index ($UTIL). Over the past five years, water utilities are up 32% -- clobbering the flat returns of both the Dow Jones Utilities and the Dow Industrials ($INDU). One of waters key long-term value drivers as an investment, according to Dickerson: Demand is not affected by inflation, recession, interest rates or changing tastes.
Water Utilites, the Industry Stalwart
John Dickerson - Summit Global Management — A striking and very illustrative fact is that we have found that in any randomly selected five-year period in the last 25 years (1982-87, 1993-98, 1979-84, etc.) water utilities usually topped the list of the best performing industry groups in the U.S. stock market on a total return basis. Why? The simple answer is that water utilities have always done very well in good times and bad. When compared to any other industry, water utilities have a more obvious and compelling business model with the most persistent demand and probably the most predictable future.
In addition, regular dividend increases tend to keep the stock prices moving ahead on a very consistent and predictable basis. Such regular dividend increases are a hallmark of the water utility group, and are perhaps the best indicator of the quality and stability of any enterprise. It also says a lot about the cash generated by these businesses.
The best way to invest in water
Money Week — Clean water is quietly becoming one of the most critical resource issues in the world economy.
Researchers at the Center for Strategic and International Studies predict that by 2025 water will be the most grave resource problem in the global economy.
In many parts of the world, it is already an undeniable problem of growing importance.
First, there is the issue of polluted water. This is already the biggest cause of sickness and death in the world. Second, there is the problem of getting it where it needs to be.
Investing in water: the threat to China and India
Population growth has not followed the location of water resources. The most obvious example is China, which has more than 20% of the world’s population and only 7% of its water. And a good chunk of China’s population is in the dry northern regions.
China is not alone in this. India is no better off. The southern city of Chennai (once known as Madras) is a typical example. Technology companies are setting up shop here and money is flowing in from abroad. This rapid growth hides a festering problem below the surface prosperity. As the Financial Times reports:
“Anyone who stands at the edge of Marina Beach and watches the stinking, black and lifeless water of the Cooum River befoul the blue-green sea at the river mouth can hardly fail to notice that Chennai has a problem with its water.
“Only a third of the city’s waste is treated. The rest flows into the rivers and to the sea. These polluted waters pose enormous health risks. And Chennai is typical of Indian cities, and of cities in other emerging markets.”
The World Bank’s recent report on India warned, “Unless dramatic changes are made - and made soon - India will not have the cash to maintain and build new infrastructure, nor the water required for the economy and its people.”
Investing: Water might really make your profits flow
USA Today — Water was a major theme for many of the people we talked to. Tom Marsico, founder of the Marsico funds, suggests investing in water in the western USA, where water is already getting scarce.
Water has been a good investment in the past, says Joe O'Brien, president of WaterColorado.com. An acre-foot of water from the Colorado Big Thompson project cost about a dollar in the 1950s, O'Brien says. It's worth about $10,000 today. (An acre-foot is one acre of water, 12 inches deep, or 325,851 gallons.) "Water runs uphill to money," he says.

You can't just speculate in water rights: It's illegal in Colorado, says O'Brien. You could, however, buy real estate with water on the property, if you really wanted to cash in on Western water.
Robert Doll, chief investment officer for BlackRock, a New York investment manager, also thinks water is a good long-term investment. "It's a precious and rare resource," he says.
Water is the oil of the 21st Century
An article in Fortune Magazine in May of 2000 stated, "Water promises to be to the 21st century what oil was to the 20th century: the precious commodity that determines the wealth of nations."
