BATON ROUGE, La. — A Louisiana waste operator has been arrested on charges he dumped untreated wastewater on the ground near his facility in Vacherie.

The state Department of Environmental Quality says 45-year-old Charles Earnest Toth also is accused of making false statements on forms he submitted to the department.

The department's criminal investigation division arrested Toth.

Toth allegedly bypassed the treatment facility on his property before dumping loads of wastewater. The department said samples of soil taken from his land contained chemicals related to oil and petroleum products.
