SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose Water Company, Silicon
Valley's Water Company, and Kinetico Incorporated, a leading
manufacturer of water treatment products, are launching a program
unlike any other in the country to offer water customers better
tasting and softer water. Beginning mid-April, the Crystal Choice
Water Service will initially be available in select areas of San Jose
Water Company's service area.
Crystal Choice Water Service, a joint venture between SJW Corp.
and Kinetico Incorporated, is operated as an unregulated affiliate of
San Jose Water Company. Initially, customers in select areas in San
Jose Water Company's service area will have the opportunity to rent
or purchase a Waterplant® total home water treatment system which
consists of a combination whole-house chlorine removal, water
softener and reverse osmosis drinking water system.
For more than 130 years, San Jose Water Company has provided water
that meets or exceeds all drinking water standards. "Research
confirmed that even though the majority of customers had a high level
of confidence in the utility, there were some who wanted even better
water," notes Scott Yoo, Vice President -- Water Quality of San Jose
Water Company. "In fact, we found that the majority of water
customers were already doing something on their own to improve water
taste, whether it meant the installation of a water conditioning
system or filter or the purchase of bottled water. When customers
were asked if they would prefer a water treatment option through the
utility, they responded favorably. They said that this type of
service would save them the time and hassle of shopping around for
alternatives, and they felt a level of trust with regard to the
utility's ability to service them for many years to come."
With regard to the decision to partner specifically with Kinetico,
Yoo explains, "We really did our homework before making a final
selection. We tested Kinetico products and looked into the company's
history. We found that Kinetico adheres to the same high standards
that we do. It is an industry leader with a track record of solid
product performance and customer satisfaction. Moreover, its products
have been rated highly in leading consumer rating publications and
are certified by NSF International."
Gary Martin, director of residential/commercial sales of Kinetico,
applauds San Jose Water Company for its aggressive approach. "We
believe that San Jose Water Company is the first water utility in the
country to give water customers this type of option," says Martin.
"They are extremely sensitive to customer concerns and understand the
need to provide even better water. We look forward to a long and
satisfying partnership with them."
"The Crystal Choice Water Service is a way for us to provide water
customers with the additional water services for which they've been
asking," Yoo says. "Customers will still receive high quality water
and service, but those who are interested will have the opportunity
to take advantage of this additional service", he adds.
San Jose Water Company, which is a private company listed on the
American Stock Exchange, was founded in 1866. It employs nearly 300
people and serves a population of approximately one million people
living in a 134-square mile area in metro San Jose, California.
