U.S. Water News Online

CASPER, Wyo. — An effort to clean up the former Amoco refinery site in Casper has reached a milestone.

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality recently issued certificates of completion for removing and securing contaminated soil at the closed down refinery.

The certificates also confirm that wastes and buried pipe were also removed.

The former refinery site is now owned by BP.

Soil, waste and pipe removal activities began in 2001 and concluded in late 2008. Portions of the former refinery property have been developed for commercial and recreational use, including a golf course, a kayak course and office buildings.

Ongoing treatment of affected groundwater at the site will continue.
