The governors of Georgia, Florida and Alabama plan to meet by Nov. 30 to negotiate a resolution in the ongoing battle over sharing water from the Chattahoochee River.

The governors made the announcement in a joint request filed in U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Alabama by the three states and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which operates federal dams on the river.

The states also have asked U.S. District Court Judge Karon Bowdre for another four months of mediation with Judge Charles Renfrew, a retired federal judge.

The court filing also addresses Georgia and Alabama's dispute over the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa River Basin, which includes Lake Allatoona and Carters Lake.

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue and Alabama Gov. Bob Riley met Aug. 14 in Columbus and announced the states are close to an agreement. Representatives of the two states have met twice since Perdue and Riley met, according to court documents. The governors plan to meet again in several weeks.
