ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Asian Chapter of the International
Bottled Water Association (IBWA) has selected NSF International
of Ann Arbor as the third-party plant sanitation auditor for all
of its bottled water company members. As a condition of IBWA membership,
bottled water member-producers will have NSF audit their plants
annually.

The IBWA Asian Chapter, which currently has some 100 members in
21 countries, is one of the fastest-growing chapters in the international
bottled water industry association. Currently, Asians consume
only about 3.5 percent of the worldwide usage of bottled water,
compared to 64 percent by Europeans, and 21 percent by Americans
. This Asian share of the international bottled water market is
projected to triple within the next few years.

Water bottlers in Seoul, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Bangkok already
have applied for NSF certification. NSF currently is working with
allied international organizations in the Pacific Rim to provide
local audit and testing services, including NSF certification.
