Stricter labeling urged for bottled water

Researchers and congressional investigators say consumers know less about bottled water than the tap water in their faucets because of the way the two are regulated.
The Government Accountability Office and the Environmental Working Group recommend in reports that bottled water be labeled with the same level of information municipal water providers must disclose.
The working group plans to urge Americans to make bottled water “a distant second choice” to filtered tap water during testimony before a congressional subcommittee.
Bottled water sales were rising for years but the $16 billion industry has suffered as colleges, communities and some government’s limit or ban bottled water to cut spending and waste.
